Party termed it as Kanakapura Chalo' protest and expecting hundreds to gather at Kapalibetta.

The statue is pioneer project of Congress leader DK Shivakumar. He cautioned his supporters, saying, I urge everyone not be instigated or provoked.

To ensure peace in the area, the local administration has put 1,000 policemen including armed police units on duty.

The statue is to come up in Harobele village dominated by Christians in Shivakumar constituency. The community has been living for about 400 years.

On the occasion of Christmas, DK Shivkumar handed over the documents of the land to the trust that will shoulder the responsibility of installing the statue -- which if constructed will be made from hard granite.
