An Eighteen years old Bsc second year student lost the battle of her life seven days after she was set on fire while returning to home from an examination center.The girl, who was a native of Uttrakhand Pauri district, succumbed to her burn injuries and lost her life today during the treatment at Safdarjung Hospital.The relatives of the deceased student told that the death occurred around 11 o'clock.

According to the reports, 31 years old local taxi driver named as Manoj Singh alias Bunty had been allegedly stalking the girl for past few months. He was upset after she rejected his proposals of relationship many times. On 16th December afternoon, the culprit accosted the girl near a forest while she was on her way home from college on her two-wheeler. He allegedly soaked her with petrol and set her on fire.

A resident of Gahad village, Manoj Singh was already married. He was later on arrested from his house. The two wheeler as well as the bottle of petrol was also found from the spot.

Meanwhile, local residents terming it a “heinous crime” staged a protest demanding death penalty for the accused.
