Congress’ Lok Sabha Candidate, Gurjeet Singh Aujla, was at an election rally in Ajnala of Amritsar district when gunshots were fired nearby. According to reports, a youth from Ugar Aulakh village in Ajnala was injured and was admitted to the hospital. Reports say that he was shot over an old rivalry.
Giving information to the media, the victim, Lovely Kumar informed that he was attending the rally after being told to do so by Ajnala MLA Harpartap Singh. Gurjeet Aujla was reportedly running late, so Lovely had stepped out to drink some water. There, the miscreants pulled up in an Audi car, a Brezza car and several others and started attacking him with swords and guns.
The victim said that he was hit on his arm by the swords and was shot in the hands. The victim informed that after that a crowd started to gather, following which the attackers fled the scene. The victim informed that the attackers had registered a false case against him and that he had been granted bail from the Supreme Court. He further said that the SSP Rural Amritsar knows about the false case and had appealed for it to be cancelled. And instead, a case should be registered against the attackers.
Ajnala police station SHO Balbir Singh reached the spot and initiated an investigation. He informed that the matter pertains to an old dispute between the involved parties. He further stated that Lovely Kumar is a resident of Ugar Aulakh. Furthermore, he was shot in the hand has been admitted to the hospital. An investigation is underway.
Gurjeet Aujla, who was present at the scene, said that people are roaming around, brandishing weapons, even while the Modal Code of Conduct (MCC) is in effect. “Today, one of our (Congress) workers has been shot and his life was barely saved. We demand strict action against these miscreants.”
