In a massive development, BCCI on Saturday announced Team India's Test squad for the upcoming England tour. For the upcoming India vs England Test series, the BCCI named Shubman Gill as the Test captain and Rishabh Pant as his deputy. BCCI named an 18-member squad that will go to England after the completion of the Indian Premier League. It is after many years that Team India's test squad will be without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Notably, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket a few days back.

India will take on England in a five-match Test series from June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The series will mark the beginning of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.

Team India squad for England

Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav

Why did Mohammed Shami miss Team India's bus to England?

Selector and former cricketer Ajit Agarkar said, "He's had a little bit of a setback over the past week, got some MRIs done. Wasn't going to be able to play five Tests. Don't think his workload is where he needs to be. The medical guys told him he'll be ruled out. We were hoping he'll play some part, but if he's not fit, we'd rather pick guys fit and available rather than waiting."

Why was Jasprit Bumrah not named as Team India's captain?

Ajit Agarkar said, "More important to us a player. Once you're managing people, there's a lot that takes out of you. We've had a chat with him, he's okay with it. He knows where his body's at. KL not really, he's captained a while back, he's a quality player and hope he has a big series. With Booms, it was more about his workload management."
