Despite the Punjab government orders to not hold any mass gatherings in the form of marriages or religious congregations, Nangal, an area of Rupnagar district has witnessed a grand event. According to the information acquired from our reporter Mr. Dikshit Kumar, this religious congregation is a ritual, celebrated every year with full zest and devotion. 

The video of the event has floated on the internet, where people can be seen defying social distancing norms. Although, some of the people can be noticed wearing a mask that hints on the celebration amid the pandemic when CM Capt Amarinder Singh had enforced Section 144 to curb the spread of the infection.

To confirm the viral video, True Scoop called IAS Rahul Tiwari, Divisional Commissioner, Rupnagar who directed ADC (General), Ms. Deepshikha Sharma, to intervene into the matter.

ADC Sharma said the event had taken place without the consent of district administration. DSP and SDM have been asked to probe into the situation, so that event organizers can be traced and interrogated. 

Amid pandemic, this massive gathering has rung alarm bells for the Rupnagar's district administration as the town might witness the community transmission stage. 

So far, Rupnagar has recorded 159 positive cases of coronavirus with one death.
