NCRB in its latest report names Kolkata as one of India’s safest cities for women and affordable as well.

Here’s a call out to all solo women travellers who have been planning a solo trip for a long time; Kolkata is your next destination. Kolkata has been announced as the safest city in the country for women, as per the recently released data of the National Crime Record Board (NCRB). Girl gang or solo, now you know where to take your next relaxing trip. 

According to the NCRB report, out of 19 cities in the race, Kolkata topped the list by recording the least number of alleged sexual assault cases and ‘zero’ cases of sexual harassment. As per the NCRB data, in 2019 Kolkata there were 14 alleged sexual assault cases registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) whereas no case of ‘attempt to commit rape’, under Section 376 read with 511 of the IPC was registered.

Further, as per the NCRB data, all victims who lodged such complaints of sexual assault in Kolkata in 2019 were above 18 years. The reason behind why Kolkata stands at being a safe place for women is better and strict splicing, says a senior police officer. Also, citizens of Kolkata quickly prompt to anything that happens around them and without thinking twice to come forward to help people.

Patna in Bihar and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu followed Kolkata in terms of lesser number of sexual assault cases. As per the records, there was only one such case was recorded in Coimbatore, whereas the number of a sexual assault case in Patna stands at 13. However, Patna lagged behind the other two cities by recording 12 sexual harassment cases, whereas it was zero in both Kolkata and Coimbatore. Cities like Uttar Pradesh, with 59853 cases, have recorded the highest number of crimes against women, whereas Maharashtra registered 37144, and Rajasthan 41550 cases in 2019. As per the NCRB data, 12902 cases of crime against women were registered in Delhi in 2019 whereas Mumbai Police recorded 6519 such cases.
