In season 1 of special ops 1.5, Himmat Singh – the RAW agent is on the phone and orders ‘Thok do (kill him)’ and soon after says to leave him. It's a terrific opener, and it helps us get through the rest of the first season, which takes eight too lengthy episodes and numerous sluggish, rather ponderous diversions to reach where it wants to go: The Bad Muslim Terrorists are thokoed, The Smart Indian Spy emerges victoriously and The Happy Ending.

Special Ops 1.5 has opened up at the Disney Hotstar+ today morning. In this new season, Himmat Singh is still in jail, the interlocutors are the same clueless duo of Bannerji Sahab and Chaddha Sahab (Kali Prasad Mukherjee and Parmeet Sethi) and are still interested in the spymeister who happily spends lakhs of 'Sarkari funds on vague categories classified as miscellaneous.

The current season's problem is that the antagonist - a mole, one of their own — is simply not terrifying enough. Last time, we got some foreign settings – Baku, Dubai, Istanbul, and Tehran – as well as a lot of exotic baddies and a handful of cool executions. This time, we're handed firangi 'honeypots,' who entice Indian envoys with such a straight face to suck out confidential secrets.
