More than 5 years after the death of Pan India actress Sridevi, her husband & filmmaker Boney Kapoor finally broke his silence about his wife's 'unnatural' demise. Sridevi's death shocked the world and Indian film fraternity when it was reported that the actress died on February 24, 2018, at the age of 54 in her hotel room in Dubai. Sridevi along with her family including Boney Kapoor was staying in a Dubai luxurious hotel to attend a family function. However, Dubai authorities claimed that Sridevi died due to an accidental drowning in a bathtub in her hotel room, a forensic report revealed on February 26 of the same year. However, many social media users could not take Sridevi's death as a natural one and believed there might be some foul play and hence Boney Kapoor's name popped up. However, Dubai authorities confirmed that Sridevi's death was accidental drowning. Now, for the first in 5 years, Booney Kapoor opened up on Sridevi's death reason. Below is what he revealed-
What happened to Sridevi?
Boney Kapoor while talking to a news portal said that Sridevi's death was not natural, however, confirmed that her demise was accidental. “It was not a natural death; it was an accidental death. I had decided not to speak about it because I spoke about it for almost 24 or 48 hours together when I was being investigated and interrogated. In fact, the officers said we had to go through this because there was a lot of pressure from Indian media. And they discovered there was no foul play. I went through all the tests, including lie detector tests and all those things. And then, of course, the report which came clearly stated it was accidental,” said Boney Kapoor.
Notably, Boney Kapoor married Sridevi in 1996 and had two children with her. Boney and Srdevi's children include- Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Both Janhvi and Khushi are aspiring Bollywood actresses and are widely followed on social media. The filmmaker was previously married to Mona Shourie Kapoor.
After Sridevi died, Boney's children from his first marriage, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, had also participated in the funeral and expressed their support to Sridevi’s children Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

As per reports, Boney Kapoor, Sridevi's husband was the only person other than Sridevi in that room in Jumeirah Emirates Towers. Boney reached the Dubai hotel at around 6.20 p.m, Dubai time, soon after landing in Dubai. While he was doing his check-in formalities at the hotel and taking a duplicate key to Sridevi's room, he asked the bell boy to delay taking his bag to the room as he was too excited about catching her by complete surprise. Sridevi and Boney then talking for several hours.
Boney went to freshen up. He told Sridevi, that they should go for a romantic dinner. He asked Sridevi to postpone the shopping to the following day (Sunday). As a result, Sridevi then headed for her bath. On the other hand, Boney watched television for around 15 minutes, and then became restless. He shouted out to Sridevi twice. There was no response. He went to the bathroom and knocked on the door. He kept calling, and knocking and started panicking. He opened the door, as it had not been bolted from inside. He could hear the tap running. He opened the door, and found Sridevi completely immersed in water, from head to toe inside the tub.
