'Stop calling your company a family': CEO of Hustlr' remark hits hard at the mass firing of employees

Do the companies really mean it when they call their employees as close ones?

Microsoft Twitter Netflix
CEO of a Sydney-based digital media agency posted on LinkedIn that companies should stop calling themselves a family.

Whenever we work in different companies, organizations and corporate offices, one thing that we as employees always get to hear is, “We are a family and should work together for its success. Do the companies mean it when they call their employees close ones?

For the last few years, every other day news comes of companies firing their employees on a large scale is coming to the fore.

Reported Microsoft laid off approximately 1800 employees on 13 July 2022 across all its offices. In May, Netflix fired almost 300 of its employees due to cost-cutting. Around 100 workers were laid off by Twitter due to the turmoil surrounding Elon Musk. Leaving these companies aside, many other companies have left their employees in the middle of their journey and have moved forward.

These statistics portray that the companies are totally in disagreement with the statement given above.

If a company is calling itself a family then they should also work as one. Don’t just fire or lay off the employees due to poor performance, cost-cutting, turmoil, etc. If these things happen in a company-cum family, they should try to seek the problem and find a solution to it instead of leaving the workers helpless.

Recently, Daniel Abrahms, founder and CEO of a digital media agency, Hustlr, Sydney shared a note saying, “Stop calling your company "a family." Parents don't fire their children for poor performance or lay them off to cut household costs when they're struggling to put food on the table. Focus on being a team, built on trust and respect, where every person feels valued. Ultimately, your company isn't defined by your words, but by your actions.”

He also suggested to everyone that rather than speaking a lot, focus more on your work as a company is never defined by words but by actions. He impressed upon the point that more focus should be to build trust, respect and value for every person working in the company.
