Havildar Varinder Singh, from the Sikh Regiment of the Indian Army, has developed a ‘Multipurpose Octocopter’. A product of his ingenuity, this octocopter redefines what aerial unmanned drones are capable of. His ingenuity bestowed him with the Vishisht Sewa Medal from the Prime minister Modi himself.

The Multipurpose Octocopter offers a myriad of functionalities that elevate its significance on the battlefield. From conducting vital surveillance missions with real-time camera feeds to seamlessly delivering essential supplies to remote outposts, including the daunting High Altitude Areas (HAA) too treacherous for the soldiers.

It can be used to drop essential supplies to forward HAAs. With cutting edge and innovative propulsion technology, this octocopter is capable of carrying a loads weighing 25-30 kgs as compared to traditional drones used by the military, which can only carry 5-10 Kgs.

Its capabilities transcend logistical support however as the drone comes equipped with AK-47s and 50mm MGL rifles to defends itself from enemy attacks. It also enables the army to conduct sensitive surveillance and reconnaissance operations with a cutting-edge camera, providing constant real-time camera feeds to its operators.

Multipurpose Octocopter, therefore, has the potential to become a force multiplier in operational areas and situations where last-mile connectivity for delivery of operational logistics is a challenge. It would be particularly useful for the delivery of essential supplies to troops deployed at remote posts in High Altitude Areas and Mountainous Terrain.

Recognizing his groundbreaking innovation, Havildar Varinder Singh has been honored with the prestigious Vishisht Seva Medal by the esteemed President of India. This accolade not only celebrates his individual brilliance but also underscores the collective impact of his innovation on the operational effectiveness of the Indian Army.
