Subsidy on food served at parliament canteen completely removed, says Om Birla

The Lok Sabha speaker on Tuesday announced that the food subsidy at Parliament canteen has been completely removed.

Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Tuesday announced that subsidy on food served at Parliament canteen has been completely removed. This move comes ahead of the upcoming Budget session of the parliament. 

While addressing the media, Om Birla informed about the time of how Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will function in the upcoming session.  

"Amid COVID-19 pandemic, Budget Session will commence from January 29. Rajya Sabha will sit from 9 am to 2 pm and Lok Sabha will sit from 4 pm to 9 pm. Zero Hour and Question Hour will be held. MPs have been requested to undergo RT-PCR test," Om Birla said.

The speaker also mentioned that all necessary arrangements will be made as per the Coronavirus protocols during the approaching Budget Session. Birla perceived that parliament functioning has been affected by Covid-19 pandemic around the world. 

During the pandemic, some major legislative affairs were transacted by the Lok Sabha, including the enactment of proper laws for the protection of health workers serving the public during these challenging times, said Birla.

The Parliamentary proceedings were carried by all corona-related safety protocols and health safety was ensured for everyone working in the Parliament House Complex.

Birla told that use of tolls like e-Parliament and e-Office in the functioning of Parliament was increased and has also served to provide a helpful environment to the Members of Parliament in the effective discharge of their responsibilities.
