Doctors of AIIMS, Delhi on Thursday declared that they are taking back their protest after the supreme court’s appeal. Doctor of AIIMS have started a 11 day protest against the rape and murder case happened with the trainee doctor at Kolkata.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had asked the protesting doctors to return to work and assured them that no adverse action would be taken after they returned to work. 

The AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association said in a post on X, "We are returning to work after the Supreme Court's appeal and intervention in the RG Kar incident and provide assurance of safety to doctors. We appreciate the Supreme Court's move and call for compliance with its directions. Patient care is our top priority." On August 12, the doctors' association launched a nationwide protest and stopped OPD services opposing the heinous act of rape and murder that happened with the junior trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata , West Bengal. But now the emergency services continued as normal.

Protests began across the country after the brutal attack and murder of the junior doctor. On August 9, her body was found in the seminar hall of the Chest Department of the government hospital, bearing severe injury marks. The next day, a civic volunteer was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case.

As the protests continue across the country, the Supreme Court has also set up a National Task Force(NTF) to look into the matters ensuring security of medical professionals, especially women. During the hearing the CJI observed the need of a portal in NTF to receive anonymous complaints from doctors. CJI assured resident doctors that their complaints will be looked after by the NTF.

The doctors’ organisation, who were striking till now, have promised to cooperate with NTF. The Supreme Court has ordered the task force to submit an interim report within three weeks and a final report within two months.
