After the Government of India revealed that almost 30 percent of positive cases in entire India is constituted by Tablighi Jamaat attendees, MNS Chief Raj Thackeray gave a controversial remark.Thackeray said that these people should be shot at questioning why are they being treated as religion seems to be more important for them than the nation. Raj Thackeray further said that people belonging to the jamaat, who have attacked police personnel, should be beaten in public to set an example that they won't be spared.

As per the government, 1,023 COVID-19 positive cases with links to Tablighi Jamaat reported from 17 states till now and nearly 22,000 members of the Jamaat and their contacts have been quarantined so far.
