On the occasion of Teacher's Day, Hansraj College, Delhi University organized the second Maharishi Dayanand Smriti Lecture Series. Speaking on the importance of Guru in Indian knowledge tradition on this occasion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the chief guest of the program, said that the role of teachers is central in the formation of any society. Teachers decide the condition and direction of the society. Teacher's Day is a symbol of sacrifice and dedication of teachers. He said that a teacher initiates his disciple selflessly and wants his disciple to become the greatest man in the world. He said that every youth of the country must be educated and should take a pledge that no one in the country should be illiterate, the light of knowledge should reach every deprived person of the society. On this occasion, remembering the sacrifice and martyrdom of Maharishi Dayanand and Mahatma Hansraj, he said that a small sapling of DAV family planted by them has become a banyan tree. When the society was stuck in the roots of conservatism, so much so that for women's education, one had to fight with one's own society, at such a time these great men gave direction to the society. Maharishi Dayanand started the campaign for social transformation based on the Vedas. He praised the contribution of former President Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. In the program, some selected teachers of Hansraj College were honored with Mahatma Hansraj Shiksha Samman. The college's highest honor, Mahatma Hansraj Ratna Samman, was presented to the Lok Sabha Speaker by the college principal Prof. Rama. During the program, the release of the book written by Prof. Rama and published by the National Book Trust on Mahatma Hansraj was also done. The Lok Sabha Speaker said that while studying in Hansraj College, education will remain incomplete without knowing the life philosophy of Mahatma Hansraj. During the programme, the Lok Sabha Speaker and other guests met the volunteers of Mitti Cafe run by differently abled students at Hansraj College and encouraged them. On this occasion, the Speaker of Lok Sabha also inaugurated the newly constructed staff room of Hansraj College while planting a sapling. The programme coordinators Dr. Prabhanshu Ojha and Dr. Shailu Singh said that the special guest of the programme and Hansraj College alumnus Naveen Jindal announced a fund of Rs. 11 lakhs for the renovation of the college's shooting range. The programme's chairman and treasurer of Hansraj College Management Committee Dr. Shivraman Gaur and Delhi University's Dean of Colleges Balram Pani also addressed the gathering. College Principal Prof. Rama welcomed the guests and introduced them to the traditions and values of Hansraj College. Programme coordinators Dr. Romila Rawat Bisht and Dr. Vikas Singh managed the programme's management. On this occasion, former Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University Prof. Sudhir Sapori and eminent members of DAV were also present.
