In a bizarre development, Jalandhar Police have arrested a 21-year-old B.Tech student in connection with the robbery and the murder of a 70-year-old woman in upscale Mota Singh Nagar. The 21-year-old Engineering student has been accused of stealing gold jewellery and cash from the deceased's home in the Mota Singh Nagar area.
The student has been identified as Kartik Reddy, a native of Visakhapatnam, currently studying engineering in a top University situated on the Jalandhar-Phagwara Highway. According to DCP Manpreet Singh, the suspect had conducted a recce of the area prior to committing the crime.
DCP Manpreet Singh said that in the preliminary investigation it was found that the said accused had stolen two gold bracelets and two rings from the house. The accused had taken a study loan of one lakh rupees, and being unable to repay it, he planned to commit the theft. According to the information received, the accused's father has already passed away and his mother and sister both run the household by farming.
The 70-year-old victim is Vinod Kumari Duggal. The victim, Vinod Kumari Duggal, was a relative of BJP leader Ashok Sareen and was found murdered at her residence. Police registered a case under multiple sections, including murder, and arrested Reddy following the investigation. He is expected to be produced in court soon for further interrogation under police remand.
