In a concerning development, a fashion designer and textile businessman, Sanjay Verma, was shot dead in broad daylight on Monday. Textile businessman Sanjay Verma was shot outside his showroom ‘New Wearwell’ in Abohar, Punjab. The assailants, allegedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, ambushed Verma as he stepped out of his car around 10:15 AM.
As per information received, three attackers were already waiting outside the showroom on a red Splendor bike bearing a Punjab registration. The moment Sanjay Verma came out from his i20 vehicle, they opened fire indiscriminately, hitting him multiple times in the chest. After the shooting, the attackers attempted to flee but reportedly lost balance and fell. They then snatched a passer-by’s motorcycle at gunpoint, fled a short distance, abandoned the bike, and escaped in a white Swift car.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, which shows the swift and targeted nature of the killing. Following the Abohar textile businessman Sanjay Verma's murder, local traders shut down the market in protest, demanding the immediate arrest of the killers.
Shortly after the incident, a social media post allegedly made from an account linked to Arshu Bishnoi of the Lawrence gang claimed responsibility. The post read, "He supported our enemies. Anyone who goes against us will be turned to dust." While the claim has caused panic among traders, official confirmation is pending, and police have not yet authenticated the source of the post.
As per reports, Sanjay Verma’s showroom was well-known across Punjab. As per a police official, "The motive, whether personal enmity or gang-related terror, is under probe."
