The Chandigarh University's alleged video leak scandal has become the talk of the nation, with the people of India still puzzled about what is a fact and what is misinformation. The Chandigarh University video leak scandal is indeed a 'curious case' as many rumours or let's say speculation were shared on social media along with many demonstrating videos. Due to the incidents breaking out late at night, the source of information for the sensational CU students video leak scandal was social media and therefore it raised many eyebrows across the nation. Not only this, but fear also grappled among the girl students of Chandigarh University that they might be one of the victims of this case. In fact, many girls fainted and were taken to hospital amidst the massive protest that took place at the varsity. Now, with three accused in the Chandigarh University Private Video leak scandal are already in Police custody, here's how things unfolded or let's what rumours stated, and how Police officials busted the missinformation-

CU video leak scandal

Massive outrage and protest erupted at Chandigarh University on September 18 after several girl students alleged that their private videos were 'leaked' by a hostel student. The students alleged that videos of nearly 60 girls taking baths in the hostel were leaked. Allegations were put up to a woman student, a 23-year-old man hailing from Himachal Pradesh, and his 31-year-old friend. Not only this it was also alleged that 8 girl students tried to commit suicide. In fact, after the incident came to the fore, Delhi CM and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal took to his Twitter handle and stated that 'One girl student has leaked objectionable videos of many girls'.

Following the preliminary investigation, police arrested a woman student and a youth from Himachal Pradesh, and said she appeared to have shared videos with him of only herself. Police took the woman's phone and found out that she only sent her own personal video to her Shimla friend. Refuting all the claims, of suicide and videos leaks of 60 girl students, SSP Mohali Vivek Soni stated that no medical records of suicide attempts have been found. Not only this, he further informed that personal videos of 60 girls were not leaked at all adding that only the accused sent her video to her Shimla friend. In fact, it was stated that girl students fainted due to panic attacks and heat amidst the massive protests. Furthermore, University authorities also rejected reports that videos of several female students were made and shared online.

Chandigarh University's Pro-Chancellor Dr. R.S Bawa in his official statement said, "There are rumors that 7 girls have committed suicide whereas the fact is that no girl has attempted any such step. No girl has been admitted to hospital in the incident. There is another rumor which circulating through media that 60 objectionable videos has been found of different students. This is totally false and baseless. During the preliminary investigation conducted by the University there has been no videos found of any student which are objectionable except a personal video shot by a girl which was shared by herself to her boyfriend.

All the rumors of objectionable videos shot of other girl students are totally false and baseless."

Why do netizens feel 'something fishy' in CU Video leak scandal probe

Now, the question arises if the accused girl and her boyfriend both were arrested, then why did the students of CU continue to protest? Another question arose among the people, if there were no mass video leaks by the hosteller, then why did students panic and continued to protest late at night? As per India Today report, students called off their protest against the CU after the administration bent their knees in front of them and acceded to their demands. Reportedly, Students demanded that the statements of those female students whose videos, they alleged, got leaked, be recorded before representatives of students. They also sought an apology from the management. Several students individually put forth their demands before the university authorities on many issues including changing hostel wardens, relaxation in timings for hostel entry, and safety issues. Interestingly, CU's acceptance over recording other alleged victims' statement, yet again raise eyebrows as they have categorically denied the ongoing reports or let's say 'rumours'.

Not only this, many big pages and netizens on social media are requesting everyone to not circulating the leaked videos of the 60 girls. The top most example in this is a famous paparazzi page Viral Bhayani. Here's what they posted-

As of now, Chandigarh University has suspended classes for six days till September 24 amid strident protests by students over allegations that objectionable videos of several women students were recorded and shared by a hosteller. Coming to what is fact and what is miss-information, people have to wait to know how and why the Chandigarh University video leak scandal took place when the Police file its conclusive report.
