Amidst a massive uproar on not only social media but also among political parties, the much-awaited movie named The Kerala Story was finally released in theaters on May 5, 2023. The Kerala Story True Story: Who is real Nimisha AKA Fathima?

In The Kerala Story, Bollywood actress Adah Sharma portrays the character of Shalini Unnikrishnan which is based on the life of Nimisha AKA Fathima Isa. As per reports, Nimisha AKA Fathima Isa, was one of the four women from Kerala who fled to Afghanistan, between 2016 and 2018, to join the terror outfit ISIS and wage war against the US forces in ISIS-controlled Khorasan Province. The three others who were identified of fleeing from India along with Nimisha were Sonia Sebastian alias Ayisha, Merrin Jacob alias Mariyam and Raffaela. They were given the term 'ISIS Bride'. It is pertinent to mention here that Nimisha is currently lodged in Afghanistan prison after her husband an ISIS terrorist was killed in an attack.

As per reports, before becoming Fathima, she was known as Nimisha Sampath. In November 2015, Nimisha Sampath a BDS student went missing from her college in Kasaragod with Rehman, and 19 others from Kerala before reaching an ISIS-controlled territory in Afghanistan. Nimisha and Merrin left Kerala for Afganistan with their husbands, Bexin Vincent and Bestin Vincent. In 2016, Nimisha gave birth to a girl named Ummu Kulusu and reports suggest that she was pregnant when she left India. As per multiple reports, Nimisha was radicalized in Kerala by a man named Abdul Rashid. Then in 2016, she told her family that she is going to Sri Lanka for religious studies but she went to Syria along with her husband and others to join ISIS. From Syria, Nimisha moved to Afghanistan and In August 2016, NIA registered an FIR and issued a red corner notice against 21 persons.

It is pertinent to mention here that after the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a group of 10 women and 21 children (including Nimisha and Ummu Kulusu) surrendered before Afghan authorities in October 2019. Their surrender came after their husbands were killed in the fight with the forces there, after which they were put in jail. Then it came to the limelight that some Indians have joined ISIS and are lodged in an Afghan jail. Notably, Nimisha her husband Bexin, and their children were spotted in a photograph from Afghanistan in 2019, and they were identified by her family. NIA had provided the photo as a part of verification to Bexin's (Nimisha's husband) family.

Notably, the government of India announced that it would not allow the return of four Kerala women who had joined ISIS. However, Nimisha's mother Bindu Sampath urged the Indian government to bring her daughter back from Afghanistan.
