ScoopThatMatters: TrueScoop News present the story of Mewa Singh, another Udham Singh the country had. Mewa Singh was a son of Nand Singh and from the village of Lopoke near Tarn Tarn in the Majha district of Amritsar who had murdered the Canadian officer Hopkinson responsible for the ousting of Komagata Maru ship from Canada.

The Komagata Maru ship was not allowed to enter Canada and when it reached Kolkata, the passengers were fired upon by the British Police resulting in many casualties and injuries. This created a huge amount of outrage in the Sikh community and Mewa Singh took it to himself to kill the officer responsible for the deaths.

He was hanged till death in New Westminster, B.C., in January 1915.

Various Canadian Prime Ministers have offered an unconditional apology for the Komagata Maru incident.
