‘72 Hoorain’ is all set to release in theatres on July 7, 2023. The movie has been directed by two-time National Award Winner Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. It has been produced by Gulab Singh Tanwar, Kiran Dagar, and Anirudh Tanwar and is co-produced by Ashoke Pandit. Amid the controversy, the makers have released the trailer of the movie today, June 28.

What all we know about the movie through the trailer:

The description under the trailer reads, '72 Hoorain' is a tale, where conviction merges with chaos, where belief dances with brutality, and where the unimaginable becomes a haunting reality. Prepare to be swept away by "72 Hoorain', a gripping tale that delves into the depths of the human psyche and explores the twisted paths taken by Fidayeens. In this riveting narrative, an unfathomable force is unleashed, driven by a belief so fierce that it defies all logic. These Fidayeens, bound by an unyielding faith, embark on a harrowing journey that leads them to the celestial realms. Their ultimate goal? To meet the legendary 72 Virgins, known as the Hoorain."

The Controversy:

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) unexpectedly rejected the trailer for the eagerly awaited, National Award-winning movie "72 Hoorain." This choice shocked the film industry and spurred discussions about censorship and artistic freedom. Ashoke Pandit, co-producer of the film said the censor board has refused to give a certificate to the trailer of the movie set for release on July 7. He said, "They (Censor board) have asked us to remove some scenes and words from the trailer, but they have no objection to keeping those scenes in the film. We are questioning this contradiction. This film is not against any religion and is dealing with terrorism." The movie's tone and content are carried over into the trailer. Therefore, everyone has been greatly surprised by the rejection.

72 Hoorain's creators announced that they will now take this issue to higher authorities for aid. They will also ask the I&B ministry to get involved and investigate the CBFC's top officials.

"We, the makers, of the film '72 Hoorain' are quite shocked and surprised because the censor board today refused to give us a certificate for our trailer. It's quite funny and sad that a film which has won a National Award, a film which has won an award at IFFI (International Film Festival of India), the visuals are the same as what were then in the film, what is there in the trailer. So on one side, you have given a National Award to the film, and on the other side, you are refusing a certificate to the trailer of the film," the producer stated.

The trailer explores the depths of the human mind as well as the winding paths taken by Fidayeens. Since the focus of the film is terrorism, it actually examines how young people are brainwashed and persuaded to join these terrorist organization. After the controversy surrounding Sudipto Sen's "The Kerala Story," the upcoming film was guaranteed to stir up more controversy. The movie will feature Pawan Malhotra, Aamir Bashir, Rasheed Naz and Saru Maini as lead characters. Other popular actors who were roped in for 72 Hoorain are Narottam Bain, Bhavani Bashir Yasir and Namrata Dixit.
