"The only country on earth to have Lord Ganesha on a currency note is the largest Muslim populated country - Indonesia," Tanuj Garg captioned the post that also accompanied a picture of the note.

The picture of Lord Ganesha is engraved on the note beside an inscription of Ki Hajar Dewantara - a celebrated Indonesian independence activist. A picture of a classroom is printed behind the note.

87.2 percent of the population in Indonesia consists of Muslims while 1.7 percent is that of Hindus. As a result of this demographic, that Lord Ganesha's picture is inscribed on the note that has surprised many. But the truth is that the Indonesian archipelago has been under the influence of Hinduism since the first century. Certain aspects of Hinduism, in fact, continue to impact Indonesian culture even at present.

Apart from Lord Ganesha's inscription on the note, Indonesia also boasts of a variety of other patterns that resonate with the Hindu culture. The Arjuna Wijaya statue is a historical landmark at the Jakarta square while Hanuman is the official mascot of Indonesia's military intelligence. Moreover, the Bandung Institute of Technology, an educational institution, also has Lord Ganesha as its logo.
