In a major threatening development, the authorities serving Sri Darbar Sahib - Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) - have received an email threatening to blow up the langar hall of Sri Harmandir Sahib.

This threat has created chaos, and security has been increased with immediate effect.

As soon as the threat was received, Chief Secretary of SGPC Kulwant Singh Mannan outlined that the SGPC has been on its toes and the security across the shrine has been enhanced. He furthermore mentioned that special focus has been given to security across the parikrama, langar hall, and sarais of the Guru Ghar.

Notably, SGPC has been working along with the police authorities, which were immediately informed about the matter.

While highlighting the matter, Mannan could be quoted saying, “It could be a mischievous element whose objective must be to spread terror. But we took the threat seriously and have enhanced vigilance around the shrine.”

It is concerning that the people or group which is behind this email has not been identified as of now; however, the investigation has been underway.

A special and crucial meeting was hosted by the President of SGPC, Harjinder Singh Dhami, which included senior police officers and asked them for possible security arrangements. During the meeting, it was decided that the officials have to take concrete steps after assessing the situation on the spot.

Along with this, Dhami outlined that SGPC will not be releasing any statement until or unless an investigation has been conducted, as it can create a terror atmosphere at the religious place. "We appeal to people not to pay attention to any kind of rumor," he said.
