“Tokyo Olympic was my last assignment,” says India women's hockey coach Sjoerd Marijne

Marijne said that he and his staff kept telling the players to improve with every practice match.

India women's hockey team head coach Sjoerd Marijne said that he wanted the players to be proud of themselves. Bronze lost but hearts won; Indian women's hockey team signs off 4th at Olympics.  The history-making Indian women's hockey team lost 3-4 to Great Britain in a hard-fought bronze play-off but the stout-hearted side managed to record its best ever finish at the Games here on Friday.

 

Sjoerd Marijne, the head coach of the Indian women's hockey team, made a big announcement. He said that the bronze medal playoff match against Great Britain in the Olympic Games was his last responsibility with this team.

 

Under the supervision of 47-year-old coach Sjoerd Marijne, the Indian women's hockey team performed at its best in the Olympic Games. The credit for the Indian team's fourth position is being given to his training.

 

In the close match against Great Britain, the team had to face defeat by 3-4. After a few hours of this match, Coach Sjoerd Marijne announced his resignation. The former Netherlands player said in an online press conference, 'I have no plans because this was my last match with Indian women. It is now in the hands of Jaaneka (Shopman).

 

Janneka Schopman is now expected to take over as Marin on a full-term basis. Marin was appointed the coach of the Indian women's team in 2017. He was then made the coach of the men's team.

 

However, in 2018, Schord Marin (Sjoerd Marijne) was again appointed as the coach of the women's team.

Coach Sjoerd Marijne has not been able to go to his home for the last 16 months due to restrictions imposed due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The decision of his resignation is being linked to this. Now he would like to meet his family.
