Tokyo Olympics: 19-year-old wrestler Sonam out of repechage round after losing opening bout

The 19-year-old Indian wrestler, Sonam Malik is out of the Tokyo Olympics, she was playing in the women’s 62 kg category, and on Tuesday she had her quarterfinals against Mongolia’s Bolortuya Khurelkhuu which she lost. On her defeat, she is out of the repechage round in Olympics.

She leads the bout at the beginning of the match with the score of 2-0 after two push-outs, but just before 35 seconds the Asian silver medallist Khurelkhuu did a take-down move and leveled up the score to 2-2, but the judges declared the latter the winner because of the move she made at the end.

Sonam took the lead and didn’t let the competitor any score in the major part of the match, but just at the end the Mongolian was able to get hold of the young Indian and scored the 2 pointers.

She was able to get qualified for the Olympics by making finals in April at the Asian Qualifier while the other is an experienced player and knew when to get hold of things. The chance of Malik to be a part of the repechage round is no more as Khurelkhuu lost the quarter-final bout.
