The 2024 Lok Sabha Election is around the corner. The voting for 13 Lok Sabha seats of Punjab and the sole seat of Chandigarh is all set to be held on 1st June 2024. During an election maintaining law and order is one of the major concerns to be tackled. True Scoop recently interviewed Jalandhar Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma. He spoke about various steps that the police departments will be taking and strategies they will be following to maintain peace during the assembly election.

 

Swapan Sharma during the interaction stated that Lok Sabha Elections 2024 is the biggest challenge right now. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma outlined that the police department will make sure to carry out the voting process in the most fair and lawful manner. He also added that for the same, Jalandhar police officers are keeping a proper check on party candidates’ activity. There is a proper check on whether any inducements are being given to a lower section of the society in exchange for their votes, etc. Swapan Sharma furthermore stated that all the party candidates have also been given proper security ahead of elections. He assured that this time Jalandhar will see 80-85% of residents casting votes in the fairest manner.

 

While giving some insights about the strategies to tackle misinformation, Swapan Sharma said that the department will go by the line, ‘Ab fake news ki khair nhi.’ He said that a proper check will be kept so that no fake or wrong information is spread regarding elections or any other issues that can spoil the harmony of the city.

 

Apart from this, the Jalandhar Police Commissioner talked about the working of ICCC i.e. Integrated Command and Control Centre. Firstly, he said that ICCC is the heart of Jalandhar which will solve many problems of the city. He said that the department will soon be announcing certain roads as ‘No Tolerance Zones.’ Also, post elections the department will gear up its toing strategy to resolve the problem of traffic in the city. Jalandhar will also see an increase in the manpower which will be deployed on various roads, chowks, and other busy locations to manage traffic congestion.
