Vehicle insurance company ACKO recently released the Theft & The City 2024 report in which it presented many astonishing numbers in terms of stealing cars and bikes. ACKO's Theft & The City 2024 report also highlighted the top cities or states of India where most numbers of vehicles are stolen. Theft & The City 2024 Report is the second edition of ACKO. Before this ACKO released a similar report in 2022. This time, AKCO made a relatively deeper study and observed that the cases of stealing vehicles increased by 2.5x in 2023 as compared to 2022. The report also revealed that India's national capital New Delhi is also the 'capital of vehicle thieves'. Delhi is followed by Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata. Interestingly, the report also highlighted a strange pattern. To be precise, thieves prefer brands whenever they steal a car or a bike. Acko in its study reported that the cars with the highest demand (and consequently, longer delivery timelines) continue to be favourite among thieves, with a strong preference for Maruti Suzuki, followed by Hyundai. These cars are always visible on roads, which, interestingly enough makes it easier to blend in while stealing the vehicle and escaping.

Top 5 Bike Models Thieves Love to Steal in India
As per Acko, bikes in India are stolen 9.25x more than cars. India's top-selling motorbike, the Hero Splendor tops the list of most stolen bikes in the country. The Honda Activa comes next, followed by the Honda Dio and the Hero Passion. The Royal Enfield Classic 350 also makes into the list of bike models that thieves love to steal.

Stat-wise thief report
As mentioned above Delhi tops the list with a vehicle stolen every 14 minutes as reported by the study. Delhi is followed by Chennai and Bengaluru. These two cities witnessed a sharp spike in vehicle thefts, rising from rising from 5% in 2022 to 10.5% in 2023 and 9% to 10.2%, respectively. Meanwhile, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata have emerged as cities with the least number of vehicle thefts in the country.
