Top radiologist Padmavati Dua dies after a long battle with COVID

On Friday, radiologist Padmavati Dua, popularly known as Chinna Dua died after a prolonged battle with Covid. She was 61 years old.

Padmavati and her husband Vinod Dua both were admitted to the Medanta Hospital, Gurugram after testing positive to Covid-19 on May 14. Vinod was discharged from the hospital on June 7. While, on June 8 he shared on social media about Chinna and wrote, “Chinna is not over the hump as yet.”

Today, the news of Padmavati’s demise was also shared by her husband on Facebook. He posted at 10:26 pm and wrote, “Chinna is no more.”

Chinna Dua worked as a radiologist until 2019 at Diwan Chand Aggarwal Imaging and Research Centre. On the internet, she was popular because of her attractive saree collection and myriad talents such as cooking and singing. 

She lived with her husband and journalist Vinod Dua, her daughters, an actor and comedian, Mallika Dua, and a clinical psychologist, Bakul Dua. She is popularly known by her nickname ‘Chinna’, which means ‘small’ – she was the youngest of four sisters.

After being admitted to Covid, she had shared two updates on her social media accounts. In the first update she wrote, “Hi all, day before on May 13, I started having difficulty breathing. My doc by listening to my voice said that I was going into cytokine storm and need monitoring. We were admitted to St Stephens’ Hospital on May 13 but my condition progressed, requiring ICU but the bed wasn’t available there. Last night we got admitted to Medanta. Vinod is in the room on 5-liter intermittent oxygen. I am 15 liters and breathless. It will take some time to recover. Need all good wishes, blessings and prayers of all.”

The second message was shared on May 22, she wrote, “Good day. Hope you all are fine. At this stage, we would all love miracles… Shraddha and saburi i.e. faith and patience is the only way to tide over. So stability and status quo are to be thankful for which is how it is right now. There are samples taken in the middle of the night. Sleep is disturbed for medicines, sponging, meals and whatnots leaving one exhausted at times… Please continue with your prayers.”

After four days of her second message, she was put on a ventilator, this update was shared by Vinod Dua on Facebook. He shared, “Chinna on a ventilator, sedated and very precarious. I am on oxygen in isolation.”

Their daughter, Mallika Dua has also tested positive for Covid-19. She was regularly sharing the health updates of her parents and asked people to keep her parents in their prayers.
