'QS Top Universities' provides the list of top universities every year on the basis of their selection criteria, that measures academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-students, citations per faculty, international faculty, international students among other factors. 

Indian Institute of Bombay (IITB)

Indian Institute of Bombay is one of the top public universities in Mumbai. IIT Bombay was established in 1958. It has been ranked at 172 in QS Global World University Rankings 2021. However, it's retained 1st rank in India. In Asian University Rankings, it is ranked at number 37. In India, it got an overall score of 88.5. The number of students enrolled in the university are 10,401 with 974 academic and faculty staff. It topped the list in India  because of its research output and other factors. 

Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore, India)

With a 185 rank in the QS Global World University Rankings and second rank in India, Indian Institute of Science was established in 1909. The number of students enrolled as per the data listen in the world rankings are 4,038 with 434 academic and faculty staff. The efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, a business tycoon and the Maharaja of Mysore with the government of India bore fruit with the establishment of Indian Institute of Science. Among the enrolled 4,038 students, 88% are postgraduate while 12% are undergraduate students. There are 37 international students and 2 among 434 are international staff. 

Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi

Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi secured an overall 193 rank in the QS Global World University rankings while it stood at number three in Indian rankings. The institute is at number 47 as far as Asian University Rankings are concerned. Total number of students as per the official data on the QS top universities website are 8.058 that comprises of 54% postgraduate and 46% undergraduate students.  The number of international students in the IIT are 62 comprising of 2% postgraduate and 98% undergraduate students. IIT, Delhi has 778 staff members in which 10 are recruited as international staff. 

Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

With a global rank of 275 and fourth rank in India, IIT, Madras was established in 1959. It's rank is 50 in the Asian University Rankings. The total number of students in the IIT are 9,911 with a bifurcation of 62% as enrolled in postgraduate programs while 38% enrolled in undergraduate courses. With 878 faculty members and 81 international students, the IIT, Madras is an engineer's choice because it offers them high research orientation goals among other factors. IIT, Madras hosts 16 academic departments and a few advanced research centers. Moreover, the IIT has nearly 100 laboratories and high prominence in India. 

Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

Holding an overall 314 rank in the world best universities and five rank in India, IIT, Kharagpur got 58 position in the Asian University Rankings with an overall score of 33.2 in world rankings and 77.9 in rankings as per India standards. The total number of students enrolled in the IIT are 10,928. Amongst the total number of students, 53% are postgraduate while 47% are undergraduate students. The total number of faculty staff are 841. The international students are 19 with a slightly larger proportion enrolled in undergraduate courses. 

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

IIT, Kanpur stood at 350 in global world university rankings while in India it is at number six. However, it scored 72 rank in the Asian University Rankings, with an overall score of 30.9 in world rankings while 75.1 score in Indian rankings. Located in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the IIT Kanpur was established in 1959. Being one of the favorable choice of students, the number of students in the university are 7,099. 51% of these students are enrolled in postgraduate courses while 49% are undergraduate students. Among 29 international students, 17% are undergraduate while other are enrolled in postgraduate courses. It has 613 staff members comprising of 3 international and 619 domestic staff members. 

University of Delhi

Known for its high standards in education, University of Delhi is a premier institute that ranks 501-510 in the world rankings. University of Delhi has a seventh rank in India. Total number of students enrolled in the university are 24,725. 68% students are enrolled in postgraduate courses while the remaining are enrolled in undergraduate courses. The number of international students are 290 with maximum (86%) enrolled in postgraduate courses. The faculty and staff members are 1,176 in which 9 are in the category of international staff. 

University of Hyderabad

With a 651-700 ranking  in the globe list and eight among the Indian Universities, the University of Hyderabad is one of the top public universities in Hyderabad. The total number of students in the university are 5,327 in which all (100%) the students are enrolled in postgraduate courses. There are 103 international students 405 faculty members.  

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee

IIT Rorkee got a 383 rank in overall rankings in the world. In India, it secured ninth rank. As far as Asian University Rankings are concerned, the IIT, Roorkee secured 103 rank. With a strength of 7.799 students in which 47% are postgraduate and 53% are undergraduate students, the university is one of the premier institutes in India. There are 189 international students and all are enrolled in postgraduate courses. The number of faculty and staff members are 476 with no international staff.

Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati

The sixth member of the IIT fraternity, this institute at Guwahati was established in 1994 while the academic program commenced from 1995. It secured 470 rank in the QS World University Rankings and tenth rank in India. In Asian University Rankings, it got 117 rank. With more than 5,000 students, slightly more number of them enrolled in postgraduate courses. There are 44 international students and 411 faculty members. 

QS World University Rankings also rank other universities in their list of top universities. These rankings are based on a particular criteria however, one may like a particular university on the basis of a particular department or subject. It depends from student to student because they are looking for dynamic institutes that have ranked on the top as well have a reputation or perception in the market or industry of being the best or eminent institutes. The above list of top 10 institutes can be stretched because it is followed by other prestigious institutes such as Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad; Jadavpur University, O.P. Jindal Global university, Jamia Milia Islamia among others.
