A tourist was fined £40 as she wore a bikini which was "just a string" while holidaying at Boracay beach, Philippines. The female tourist from Taiwan was at the beach with her boyfriend when she was spotted wearing the string bikini. Other tourists objected to her attire after which she was reported to the police soon after.

As per reports, the hotel in which she was staying had informed the couple that her outfit was "inappropriate", according to Boracay Inter-Agency Management and Rehabilitation Group's (BIAMRG) Natividad Bernardino.

The tourist, however, did not apologise. Instead, she explained that her string bikini was a "form of art." She was thereafter reported to the police. Later, she was fined PHP2, 500 (£40) for "erotic and lewd photographs" although no law for wearing indecent clothing exists.

Major Jess Baylon, Malay Police Chief, spoke about the incident with the Philippine News Agency and said that the tourist was fined because her bikini was "literally just string".

"We have taken this action for other tourists not to follow. It was an eye-opener for resort owners to brief guests to dress appropriately," Major Jess Baylon told PNA, as published in The Sun.

Considering hotel protocols as far as dress code is concerned were "not very extensive", tourists continue to disobey rules, Major Jess Baylon said.

Officials, meanwhile, have warned tourists to "respect the country's culture and tradition", The Sun said in its report.
