Srinagar, Dec 28 (UNI) Train service was on Friday suspended for security reasons in south Kashmir, where a militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama.

However, train service was normal in north Kashmir, a senior railway official told UNI this morning.

He said a fresh advisory was received from the civil administration and police to suspend the train service in south Kashmir in view of killing of a militant in Pulwama district on Friday.

Therefore, he said no train will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.
A large number of passengers, who had reached different railway station in south Kashmir and Banihal, were disappointed after being informed about the suspension of the train service. The agitated passengers said there was no strike call from any organisation and suspension of the train service was unjustified.
However, railway official said that they were acting on the advice of local administration since security and safety of the passengers was necessary.
Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is economical, fast and safe against other modes of transport.
