Donald-Trump Republicans Democrats

Former US President Donald Trump is the only one in the history of US who is impeached twice. Now his impeachment process is delayed until early February as per the agreement between Republican and Democrats in the senate.

Senate Majority leader of US, Chuck Schumer said, "The Senate will conduct a trial of the impeachment of Donald Trump. It will be a full trial. It will be a fair trial." It will now allow Trump's lawyers to prepare his defence because arguments will not begin until February 8.

Trump has been charged for inciting the insurrection or in the case of US Capitol unrest on January 6. Now the House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi will send the article of impeachment to the Senate on Monday.

Republicans wanted to push the dates of impeachment trial to mid February, however their request was denied by the democrats. They wanted to push the dates so that it would have given Trump much time to prepare for his defence.

Moreover, if the trial was extended until mid February, the Jan 6 insurrection attempt would have receded from the minds of general public, as per experts.

"Senate Republicans are strongly united behind the principle that the institution of the Senate, the office of the presidency, and former President Trump himself, all deserve a full and fair process that respects his rights and the serious factual, legal, and constitutional questions at stake," the senate minority leader Mitch McConnell said.

Now the current timeline is a compromise between both but the spokesperson of McConnell termed it a "win for due process and fairness."
