Ever since billionaire Elon Musk has taken over the micro-blogging website Twitter, social media has undergone many major changes. Be it chargeable and color-based ticks for social media accounts or diminishing bots from Twitter, Elon Musk is clearly in the driver's seat. Now, in order to remove 'bad actors', Twitter on Friday announced that it will allow only paid subscribers to use text messages as a two-factor authentication (2FA) method to secure their accounts. After March 20, "only Twitter Blue subscribers will be able to use text messages as their two-factor authentication method," the company tweeted. Interestingly, the company alleges phone-number-based 2FA is being abused by "bad actors," according to a Wednesday blog post that the company's tweet linked to. However, it is quite evident that Twitter's 2FA decision will amp up the paid users for the micro-blogging site.

Now, what will happen if non-blue subscribers do not switch to blue or still opt for 2FA method? As per reports, to continue using the text message/SMS facility, non-Blue subscribers have 30 days from the day of announcement to disable the method and enroll for either of the other two. After March 20, Twitter will not allow non-Blue users to use this method, and accounts still enrolled for the text-based 2FA will be disabled. Also, disabling the text facility will not automatically disassociate a user's phone number from her/her Twitter account. Additionally, the availability of the SMS facility for Blue users may vary by country and carrier.

Now, coming to Twitter ticks price, the blue check mark, previously free for verified accounts of politicians, famous personalities, journalists and other public figures, is now open to anyone prepared to pay. Last month, Twitter said it would price Twitter Blue subscription for Android at $11 per month, the same as for iOS subscribers.
