In yet another horrific incident of assault by the police, a 29-year-old black man Tyre Nichols succumbed to his injuries days after suffering brutal treatment by five officers in Memphis.

A video of the incident released by the city is now going viral it was posted a day after the policemen were accused of second-degree murder, assault, kidnapping, official misconduct, and oppression in connection with Nichols' death, footage from their body-worn cameras and a camera put on a utility pole.

Tyre Nichols kept on screaming “Mom, Mom” which can be heard in the video as the policemen kept on beating him after a traffic check, reportedly the case of the assault dates back to January 7th.

Nichols was residing in the city with his mother and stepfather and was working at FedEx. Based on the reports he was taken to the hospital three days after the incident and died while undergoing treatment.

In the videos that have been released associated with the case, a driver can be seen struggling against the policemen trying to interrogate and slowly the escalation of violence takes place aggressively as Nichols resisted.

Following the release of the video later on Friday night, a number of protestors have taken to the street marching along Interstate 55 in Memphis and reportedly stopping traffic close to a bridge that crosses the Mississippi River into Arkansas.

Nichols can be heard screaming for his rescue against the charging policemen “I didn't do anything, I'm just trying to get home,” as the policemen take him out of his car that is stopped at an intersection. Officers tell him to lie on his stomach and force him to the ground before pepper spraying him in the face.

Officers chase him down as he escapes running down a road, while one or more of them shoots him with a stun gun. Another video of the brawl captures the subsequent struggle that occurs after police re-catch Nichols in a neighbourhood.

He is held by two of them as the third kicks him, the fourth one strikes with what seems to be a baton, and the fifth charges him brutally.

The incident has reignited the call for justice for the American racial abuse against the Afro-American, which was sparked years back after George Floyd died in a similar assault by a group of policemen.

US President Joe Biden has also tendered a huge condemnation after it came to his notice saying that he was "outraged" and "truly hurt."

Based on the reports surfacing after the latest death, in Memphis, a city of 628,000 people approximately 65 per cent of the population is Black, Nichols' family and Biden made an appeal for peace. The White House reported that on Friday, Biden spoke with RowVaughn Wells and Nichols' stepfather Rodney Wells to offer his sympathies.
