US Capitol unrest: Pelosi calls for prosecution of Congress members behind insurrection

Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the house calls for the prosecution of Congress members who helped Donald Trump in inciting US Capitol unrest. As she announced a review of the security arrangements after the attempt at Capitol siege, Pelosi became tearful and emotional.

The US Capitol assault left five people dead on January 6. Investigations are on to ascertain if members of the congress gave rioters tours of the Capitol, days before the Capitol unrest happened.

After high level speculations, democratic lawmakers are suspicious of some Republican members and the police personnel who might have helped Trump is organizing a riot.

Mikie Sherrill, a Demoratic Representative and former US Navy helicopter pilot accused some Republican lawmakers of helping Trump supporters. She alleged that she saw colleagues leading groups on reconnaissance tours on January 5.

Tim Ryan, Democratic Congressman said that the investigation is looking at lawmakers who might have given tours to suspected people of the US Capitol before the insurrection.

Pelosi had said, "If in fact it is found that members of Congress were accomplices to this insurrection, if they aided and abetted the crime, there may have to be actions taken beyond the Congress in terms of prosecution for that."

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has been impeached for the second time on allegations of inciting the mob that led to US Capitol unrest.
