
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi tweeted on Mondaythat he had spoken to the new President of United States, Joe Biden. In atweet, Modi wrote, "President @JoeBiden and I arecommitted to a rules-based international order. We look forward toconsolidating our strategic partnership to further peace and security in theIndo-Pacific region and beyond. @POTUS."
A communiqué from the office of Prime Minister mentionsthat both the leaders noted that the partnership of India and US is "firmlyanchored in a shared commitment to democratic values and common strategicinterests."
It added, "They reiterated the importance of workingwith like-minded countries to ensure a rules-based international order and afree, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region."
The White House said that the joint agenda is ruled bythe issues such as climate change, Myanmar and Indo-Pacific but Biden emphasizedon defending democratic institutions and norms around the world on Tuesday.
The White House has also issued a read out of a call ofPresident Joe Biden with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It added, "Theleaders agreed to continuing close cooperation to promote a free and open Indo-Pacific,including support for freedom of navigation, territorial integrity, and astronger regional architecture through the Quad. The President underscored hisdesire to defend democratic institutions and norms around the world and notedthat a shared commitment to democratic values is the bedrock for the U.S.-Indiarelationship."
The read out added, "They further resolved that therule of law and the democratic process must be upheld in Burma. The leadersagreed to stay in close touch on a range of global challenges and look forwardto what the United States and India will achieve together for their people andfor their nations."
