Donald Trump in India: 3 deals inked between India-USA, countries to take ties on comprehensive global partnership

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that India and the USA has signed three MoUs, including one in energy sector and the countries are firm on the decision to take Indo-US ties to comprehensive global partnership level.

The unprecedented and historic welcome given to US President Donald Trump in India will always be remembered, PM Modi said that the relations between the two countries are not just restricted to governments but are people-driven.

On Tuesday, India and the US signed a defence deal worth $3billion.

Donald Trump, while announcing the deal said, "Earlier today we expanded our defence cooperation with agreements for India to purchase more than $3 billion of advanced American military equipment, including Apache & MH-60 Romeo Helicopters - finest in the world. These will enhance our joint defence capabilities."

PM Modi said, "Defence cooperation between two countries is reflective of rising strategic partnership between India and US. We also agreed on new mechanism to contain drug trafficking."

While PM Modi said that India and the US have resolved to jointly fight against those who back terrorism, Donald Trump said, "We have agreed to cooperate in dealing with radical Islamic terrorism and protect our citizens. We are resolved to eliminate terror operations on Pakistan soil."

Before starting the official talks, PM Modi in his brief remarks welcomed the US president and thanked him for sparing time out for the visit to India. In turn, US President said that the last two days in India were amazing, especially the event at the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad.

"It was a great honour for me. I would imagine they (the people) were there maybe more for you than for me... 125,000 people were inside. Every time I mentioned your name, there were cheers. People love you," Donald Trump told PM Modi in front of the media.

Trump talked about the relations between the two countries and said it has never been as good as they are now. He further added that the countries have made "wonderful deal."

Donald Trump also said that India and the US discussed 5G technology and the importance it holds for the future. He said, "During our visit we discussed the importance of a secure 5G wireless network and the need for this emerging technology to be a tool for freedom, progress, prosperity, not to do anything with where it could be even conceived as a conduit for suppression and censorship."

Both leaders insisted how the Indo-US ties have gained in strength. PM Modi said, "Today we discussed every important aspect of US-India partnership, be it defence and security, energy strategic partnership, trade or people to people ties. The strengthening in defence ties between India and US is an important aspect of our partnership."
