The United Nations (UN) on Thursday fired its first reaction to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's arrest in the alleged liquor policy scam case. Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Thursday was asked about Kejriwal's arrest and the freezing of accounts of the Congress party. Reacting to this, Stephane Dujarric stated that the UN hopes that everyone's rights are protected in India and people vote for their representatives in a free and fair atmosphere. Below is what the UN said on Arvind Kejriwal's arrest-

"What we very much hope that in India, as in any country that is having elections, that everyone’s rights are protected, including political and civil rights, and everyone is able to vote in an atmosphere that is free and fair.”

Notably, India and USA are already at the loggerheads over Arvind Kejriwal's arrest. A spokesperson from the US State Department during a press briefing said that they are "closely monitoring" the arrest of Kejriwal and are encouraging a "fair, transparent, and timely legal process". Registering India's protest over the statement, New Delhi summoned a senior US diplomat. Hours after this, on Wednesday, the US reiterated the same stand, calling for transparent and timely legal processes.

Before the US, it was Germany that had issued statement on Arvind Kejriwal's arrest.
