Veer Bal Diwas, is a day to recognize and pay tribute to the young valiant, and brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, it is a day to commemorate and pay homage to the martyrdom of the braveheart sons of Guru Gobind Singh, Zorawar Singh, and Fateh Singh.

Earlier this year on the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji on January 9th, PM Modi announced that December 26th will be observed as ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ to pay respect to their martyrdom.

On the first anniversary of Veer Bal Diwas, here are the important things you must know:

• Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh were the youngest of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh and are considered to be the most hallowed martyrs in Sikhism.

• At a very young age, the duo lost their mother and were raised by their grandmother.

• Guru Gobind Singh’s family stayed at Anandpur the place where he founded the Khalsa Panth in the year 1969.

• When Anandpur was under siege in 1704 and attacked by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb who held the fort for months, the food and other essential supplies started to diminish, it was than Guru Gobind Singh and his family accepted an offer of safe passage out of Anandpur.

• During this time, Guru Gobind Singh’s two sons- Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh were taken into captivity. Eventually they were, buried alive into a wall at the young age of 8 and 5 respectively.

• Prime Minister has taken part in the Historic Programme marking Veer Bal Diwas at the iconic Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.

• Apart from this Modi will also attend Shabad Kirtan’ performed by about 300 ‘Baal Kirtanis’ and also flag off a march-past by about 3,000 children in Delhi.

• The Union Govt under PM Modi is organizing interactive and intriguing participative events all around the country to inform and educate the citizens, especially the young children, about the story of exemplary courage of the ‘sahibzades’, the children of the last Sikh guru Gobind Singh, who wished to scarify their lives happily defending their faith against the intruders.
