Vigilance Bureau on 24th January 2023 arrested Mahesh Bansal, EO (Coordination), PUDA, Mohali. A case was registered against him u/s 13 (1) (a) r/w 13(2) PC Act 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act 2018 and 409, 420, 120-B IPC PS VB Flying Squad, Punjab at Mohali.
The Vigilance Bureau after a detailed investigation has found out various properties worth crores that he acquires. He is currently residing at House No. 5938, Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, Chandigarh. He also owns Flat No. 5309-A, Sector 38-West, Chandigarh in the name of his wife Suparna Bansal. In 2016, some space was bought for Rs. 40 lakhs in the name of his sons in Cosmo Company at Zirakpur, Mohali. In 2022, Mahesh Bansal purchased a plot in Block-C, Aerotropolis, IT City Road, Mohali from Ajit Singh s/o Sardul Singh, r/o village Bakarpur for a sum of Rs. 1,00,00,000/-. Rs. 45,00,000/- were transferred in the bank account of Ajit Singh by the accused while the remaining sum is yet to be paid. Apart from this, he has spent Rs. 1 crore on the construction of a building/structure on Plot No. 820, Industrial Area, JLPL, Sector-82, Mohali. The plot was purchased by him for about Rs. 2 crores. He has also purchased a Hyundai Verna car No. CH-01-CK-0097, Make 2021 by paying Rs. 12,00,000/- in cash. According to records he even purchased a Honda City car No. CH-01-BH-0028, make 2016, for Rs. 8,00,000/- in the name of his wife Suparna Bansal by obtaining a loan. He also has purchased a Chevrolet Cruz car No. CH-01-AL-2016 for Rs. 8,00,000/-. He has a Savings Account in Axis Bank, Phase-7 Branch, Mohali, with Rs. 11,00,000/- as the balance amount.
Adding to this, he has a joint account No. 001301028124 with his wife in ICICI Bank, Sector-9 Branch, Chandigarh with about Rs. 16,00,000/- as a balance amount. Has an ICICI Prudential Life Insurance in his name with Rs. 25000/- as yearly installment. There is another life insurance policy in the name of his wife Suparna Bansal with Rs. 25000/- as yearly installment. In 2017, Mahesh Bansal purchased a plot measuring 200 sq. yards in Aero City, Mohali for Rs. 44,00,000/- under the land-pooling scheme in the name of his brother-in-law Shashi Kant Gupta, a property dealer. Mahesh has bought a 500 sq. yard plot for Rs. 3,00,00,000/- in the name of his brother-in-law Shashi Gupta in IT City, Industrial Area, Mohali. Lastly, he has also purchased a Ford Endeavour SUV No. CH-01-CC-0097, Make 2020, for Rs. 38,00,000/- in the name of his brother-in-law (Kuram) Sulalit Gupta.
Apart from this, Vigilance Bureau is also inquiring about the bureaucrats and political leaders under whom he bought all these properties without coming under the scanner.
