Vigilance Bureau's 'Corruption list' surfaces; 49 Revenue Officers await Punjab govt action

49 revenue officers from 19 districts in Punjab have been embroiled in corruption allegations as per the Vigilance Bureau corruption list, and now action against them is imminent.

In a major development, the sensational Vigilance Bureau's 'corruption list' has come to the fore in which names of 49 Revenue Officers have been mentioned and now the clock is ticking as they wait for Punjab Government's nod for action. Notably, Arun Saini, PPS Joint Director Vigilance Bureau Punjab has handed over the corruption list to the Chief Secretary of Punjab. The corruption list was supposed to be confidential, however, Vigilance Bureau's corruption list is now available in the public domain.

Going by the list, 49 revenue officers from 19 districts in Punjab have been embroiled in corruption allegations, and now action against them is imminent. Vigilance has compiled a list of these officials and sent it to the Chief Secretary, who had previously instructed the Vigilance Bureau to take action against them. However, even after 20 days, no action has been taken. The list prepared by Vigilance includes names of Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, and Sub-Registrars. In addition to these officials, the names of influential private individuals, clerks, agents, and advocates involved in extorting large sums of money have also been provided. Among them is the name of a female Naib Tehsildar from Amritsar.

The list claims that these officers extort money from people in the name of getting work done. Vigilance received complaints from people that these officers were taking bribes. Following this, Vigilance marked these officers, and their details have gone viral. According to the report, the Chief Vigilance Director wrote that based on inputs gathered from the field, private agents and aides are collecting bribes from people for getting their property registered on behalf of officers from the Revenue Department.

The report on corruption by revenue officers in the 19 districts of Punjab reveals that 37 Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars have been named, while 71 private agents, clerks, and advocates have been enlisted to extort bribes on behalf of these officers.
