Vijay Diwas: PM Modi pays tribute to the soldiers at National War Memorial

In December 1971, the Indian Armed Forces secured a crucial and historic Victory over the Pakistan Army, which led to creation of a Nation- Bangladesh and also resulted in the largest military Surrender after World War-II.

On Wednesday PM Narendra Modi paid tributes to the martyrs of India Pakistan war of 1971. The day is celebrated as Vijay Diwas and marks 50th anniversary of the same. The day is also known as Bangladesh Liberation war. 

‘Swarnim Vijay Mashal’- a symbol of victory was also lit by PM Modi. Four ‘Victory Mashals’ were lit from the Eternal Flame of National War Memorial will now be carried to the various parts of the nation , including the villages of ParamVir Chakra and MahaVir Chakra awardees of 1971 war.  

PM Modi took twitter to extend his wishes. He tweeted” On Vijay Diwas we recall the unwavering courage of our armed forces that resulted in a decisive victory for our nation in the 1971 war. On this special Vijay Diwas, had the honour of lighting the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ at the National War Memorial.”

The complete year is known as Swarnim Vijay Varsh and will venerate the golden jubilee of Vijay Diwas .Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who was also present at the venue, unveiled the logo for 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh'.

In a tweet, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, "I salute the tradition of courage and valor of the Indian Army. I remember the bravery of the brave soldiers who wrote a new legend in the 1971 war. Their sacrifice is a source of inspiration for all Indians. This country will always remember them."
