The US Embassy has recently released a bold statement regarding the possession of US visas and has outlined that the US visa is a “privilege, not right,” and the screening does not stop with its issuing; the authorities can revoke it if an individual (with it) breaks any law.
In addition to this, the US Embassy has also outlined that if a student or a visitor, having a US visa, uses illegal drugs and breaks any rule in the US, then they will be ineligible for future US visas.
The Embassy used its official X handle to share this latest update and outlined, “Using illegal drugs or breaking any US laws while on a student/visitor visa can make you ineligible for future US visas. A US visa is a privilege, not a right. US visa screening does not stop after a visa is issued – and we may revoke your visa if you break the law.”
According to various reports, this statement was released during the time when the Trump administration was focusing on an immigration crackdown in Los Angeles, California.
Notably, this is the third such statement by the US Embassy in India during the month of June. It is worth mentioning that such messages highlight that legal entry into America, involvement in illegal activities, drugs, or breaking laws will not be tolerated by the country.
Emphasizing the above-mentioned point, the US Embassy has made it clear that the US ‘will not tolerate’ those who facilitate illegal and mass immigration to the country. Further, it highlighted that the authorities have “established new visa restrictions” which directly target foreign government officials and others who are involved in the same.
A similar statement was shared by the Embassy on June 10, when it stated that the US continues to welcome legitimate travelers to the country, but it will not “tolerate” illegal entry and abuse of visas, and violation of US law.
