In a major development, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday officially appointed prominent industrialist & Hockey India Vice President Nitin Kohli as the Halqa In-Charge (Constituency Head) for Jalandhar Central. The announcement follows the recent arrest of sitting MLA Raman Arora in a corruption case, which left a leadership vacuum in the constituency.
The induction ceremony was held at the Radisson Hotel in Jalandhar at 1:00 PM and was attended by key AAP leaders, including AAP Punjab Incharge Manish Sisodia, AAP Punjab President Aman Arora, Working President Sherry Kalsi, and Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity, Nitin Kohli said, “I thank the AAP for giving me this opportunity, especially as an industrialist. I was inspired by the growing interest the party has shown in industrial development. When I saw respected figures like Ashok Mittal joining AAP and Sanjeev Arora contesting from Ludhiana, I felt this was a party that genuinely thinks about industries. That motivated me to give politics a try to serve the city and help the industry sector grow.”
Kohli also extended his thanks to AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Manish Sisodia, Aman Arora, and Sherry Kalsi, acknowledging their support and leadership.
The appointment of Nitin Kohli is being seen as a strategic move by AAP, hinting at his potential candidacy from Jalandhar Central in the 2027 Assembly elections. Known for his contributions to industry, education, and sports, Kohli is expected to bring a fresh and credible face to AAP’s local leadership.
