While multiple states of India are engulfed in heatwave, Sony has launched its interesting gadget- a wearable Air Conditioner. Yes! you heard it right. To replace the hand fans typically used by people around the world during the scorching heat of the summer, Sony in April 2024, launched its new product Reon Pocket 5. Reon Pocket 5 is a wearable thermal device that can directly cool or warm the part of the body that the device is in contact with. This device can be used in any season, as it both cools and warms. As per Sony's official website, Reon Pocket 5's price is £139.00 (Rs 14,594.83). Talking about Renno Pocket or wearable AC specifications, Sony's official website says that it runs for approximately 4 hours at Cool Level 5 (the maximum cooling level) and for approximately 7.5 hours at Cool Level 4. "With the new SMART COOL-WARM MODE, the REON POCKET TAG’s sensing technology maximises the performance of the REON POCKET 5 to provide optimal cooling more powerfully, more quickly and for longer," says the official website.
Reon Pocket 5 also works on your different style of clothing. For instance- For casual clothing, wear a short size, Sony says that this shape avoids standing out when worn with a short collar and fully expels heat behind you.
For business clothing wear the long size. This shape extends above the collar while matching the curve of your neck and back, expelling heat efficiently without standing out when worn with business clothing.
"With the AUTO START/STOP function, it is possible to start and stop the device automatically without the need to operate a smartphone. The device automatically starts cooling/warming when you simply attach it at the base of your neck, and the device automatically stops when removed and placed on a table, etc..
Various internal components have been sealed effectively, and the device is designed to be dust and splash resistant to prevent ingress of water droplets and dust, allowing use in harsh conditions."
For the unversed, Sony's innovative personal climate control is not new. The Reon Pocket series debuted in Japan back in 2019, with later versions finding success in Asian markets like Hong Kong. The Reon Pocket 5, however, marks a global expansion, with the UK market receiving the first wave.
Notably, when will it debut in India is yet to be announced.
