Australian billionaire and former MP Clive Palmer is preparing to build a cruise ship on the lines of the Titanic ship that sank in 1912. This ship has been named Titanic-2. The work of awarding tender for this has started.
According to CNN report, the contract will be awarded to the ship builder by the end of this year. The construction work of the ship will start next year. This ship will be 833 feet long and 105 feet wide. The ship will have 9 decks. Its 835 cabins will accommodate about 2345 passengers. Almost half of these passengers will travel in first class.
According to CNN, after the announcement of building the ship on Wednesday, Clive's team also shared an 8-minute video showcasing the layout of the ship and the structure of its rooms. For this, Clive had also started a company named Blue Star Line in 2012. Clive decided to name his company on the basis of the original Titanic builder-White Star Lines.
According to media reports, Clive had first announced the construction of a second ship like Titanic in 2012. After this it was relaunched in 2018. However, exactly one year later, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, people's interest in the cruise waned. Now after 6 years, the Australian billionaire has again issued a plan to build a ship.
On April 10, 1912, Titanic set out on its first and last voyage from the port of Southampton, Britain. There were about 2200 people on board this ship and it was going to New York. Its construction work started in 1909 and it was completed in 1912. Its fate was sealed however as after 4 days of journey, it collided with an iceberg (piece of ice) at around midnight on 14th April. The ship's alarm sounded after the collision, but by the time the engine was turned and the ship was moved out of the way, the collision had already occurred.
After this, it broke into two pieces and sank in the ocean. More than 1500 people died due to the sinking of Titanic. However, 700 people on board were saved. In 1997, after the sinking of this ship, director James Cameron made a film named Titanic, which made this ship famous all over the world. The film Titanic received a record 11 Oscar awards.
