Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, on Sunday, met jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's family after her mother's comments on Khalistan. Amritpal Singh's mother on Friday insisted that her son be released right away so that he may focus on the subjects for which he ran in the elections. She stated her son is not a Khalistan supporter. Amritpal Singh took oath as an MP of Khadoor Sahib in the parliament after he was released on parole. Amritpal Singh is facing the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and has been lodged in Dibrugarh Jail along with his associates.

After meeting Amritpal Singh's family, Giani Harpreet Singh while talking to the media said, "...In India, if someone has a different opinion, he is put in jail under NSA. The slogan 'Hindu Rashtra Zindabad' was raised in Parliament and people were felicitated. What is wrong when a Sikh youth talks about 'Sikh Rashtra'?..."

What did Amritpal Singh's mother say?

Balwinder Kaur, Singh's mother, thanked God and added that the 'Sangat' (community) was delighted after Amritpal was sworn into the Parliament. "We demand that he be released immediately so that he can thank supporters and work on the issues based on which elections were won," Kaur told reporters at her home.

"He is not a supporter of Khalistani," Kaur declared. 'By speaking about Punjab's rights and saving Punjab's youth (from drugs), can anyone become a supporter of Khalistan" She further stated "He fought elections within the ambit of the Constitution and took oath. One should not say such a thing. He will raise Punjab's issues and will save youth (from drugs)".

Following this, a long note in Punjabi was posted on Amritpal Singh's X account. The translated version reads, "The state runs without religion. Without religion, everything is mixed...

Today, when I came to know about the statement made by Mataji yesterday, my heart was very sad. Support should not come from him. Dreaming of a Khalsa state is not a crime, it is a matter of pride. We cannot even dream of backing down from the path for which millions of Sikhs have sacrificed their lives..."
