‘Whatsapp Down’: Netizens react to Meta server outage on X

Meta-owned Whatsapp faced a worldwide outage yesterday. DownDetector reported over 10,000 users facing issues at around 11.45 PM yesterday.

Meta-owned Whatsapp faced a worldwide outage yesterday. DownDetector reported over 10,000 users facing issues at around 11.45 PM yesterday. Following the outage of such a popular website, “#whatsappdown” was a trending topic on rival social media platform, X, as users flocked to the site to air their grievances. The server issues were fixed by Meta some time later, but not before netizens could sufficiently make fun of the whole issue.

Whatsapp were quick to react to the server outage with a announcement post on X saying, "We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we're working on getting things back to 100%..." The users were equally quick to respond with hilarious memes of their own to Whatsapp such as this one: 

Some users pointed out the irony of Meta having to resort to X to announce their own server shortage. Several Users made fun of whatsapp lauding X's supremacy over Meta as millions of users flocked to X following the news. 

 

Not only Whatsapp, but other Meta owned platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Threads were suddenly down for many users as well, who complained of suddenly being logged out of their accounts. Many users reported that they were logged out without the option to log back in. This problem occurred on both the app and the website. According to the report of Hindustan Times, DownDetector, a website which keeps an eye on outages, has noted the reports of more than 17 thousand Indian users regarding the problem in WhatsApp.

 

Whatsapp announced there success in dealing with the issues through another post that read: "And we're back, Happy Chatting!"
