'Mention badge' is a new feature that the tech giant WhatsApp is working on, according to a report published in Mashable India. The 'mention badge' feature will appear in group chats.

This feature will help to know how many times you are mentioned in that particular group. It was reported first on a website wabetainfo.com. It stated, "After several updates that addressed bug fixes and general improvements, WhatsApp has released today the 2.21.3.13 beta update. It has nothing new apparently, but we can show today a preview of the feature they’re working on in this build: the mention badge. WhatsApp has a feature that allows to show a mention badge in the group cell, every time you are mentioned in that specific group."

The site further added, "“we’ve previously reported that this feature was under development. After receiving some reports, we’ve investigated and we’ve discovered that this is an old feature, apparently for some users. For a certain part of users, this feature did never work, so WhatsApp is introducing a sort of “fix” in order to make it work for those users. The fix will be enabled in a future update”.

As per reports, WhatsApp has introduced many features, some of these features are similar to its parent company and sister Instagram such as stories and status updates. Recently, WhatsApp faced a lot of flak due to allegations on the company for tampering with the privacy of people. However, WhatsApp tried to clear apprehensions of people and published front page Ads on newspapers while also added stories about their new update on WhatsApp.
