Punjabi singer & actor Diljit Dosanjh is undoubtedly among the most followed and beloved artists in India and more recently, across the world. Diljit Dosanjh is busy in promotion of his upcoming movie Amar Singh Chamkila. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Amar Singh Chamkila features Diljit Dosanjh & Parineeti Chopra as the titular singer and his wife. Recently, Diljit appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia's Podcast TRS Hindi and shared a heart-breaking story of how he was separated from his parents at the age of 11.

Usually a face of fun, Diljit dropped the mask and shared his life experiences which included how his parents sent him to his relatives’ house without asking him. Recalling the story, he told Ranveer, “When I was 11 years old, I left home and started living with my uncle. I left the village and came to the city. Uncle said send him to the city with me and my parents said, okay, take him. They did not even ask me.”

Diljit says that even though they did this for a better future for him, the distance created a rift in his relationship with them. He recalled his time in the city, “I used to live in a small room, I would just go to school and come back. There was no TV or phone at that time, If I had to talk to my parents on the phone or even receive a call from them, it would cost money.” This led to him becoming distant from his family, he further said.

Diljit also stressed on the point that his parents sent him away for a better future. “I respect my mother a lot. My father is very sweet. He did not ask me anything about which school I study in. But my connection was broken. Not only with them but with everyone” he said. Diljit had earlier written an emotional letter for his mother and said that, “When I call home, I take her blessings before hanging up. I say ‘Pairi Paina’ and she says ‘Putt Khush Reh’. Believe me after listening to this, I forget all my tensions. There is so much love in her voice. My mother comes first for me even before God.”

On the work front, Diljit Dosanjh's upcoming movie is based on the true story of Punjab's biggest pop star Amar Singh Chamkila who was assassinated along with his wife Amarjot in 1988. The trailer of the movie suggests that Amar Singh Chamkila was called the Elvis Presley of Punjab. The movie will be released on Netflix on April 12, 2024.
