However, Arne Cheyenne Johnson pleaded not guilty to the charges saying that he was under demonic possession and hence the case is called 'The Devil Made Me Do It'.

Now, the question arises who was Arne Cheyenne Johnson, and why his case is historic in terms of US history? To know the answer continue reading-

Who was Arne Cheyenne Johnson?

Netflix's The Devil on Trial investigates how Arne Cheyenne Johnson pleaded not guilty to the gruesome murder of Alan Bono.  Arne Cheyenne Johnson had claimed that he was under the influence of Satan when he stabbed his 40-year-old landlord Alan Bono more than 20 times with a five-inch pocket knife after they got into an argument.

The Devil Made Me Do It Case was among the most sensational cases of its time with 'real-life' paranormal experts Ed and Lorraine Warren coming in support of Arne Cheyenne Johnson.

How did Arne Johnson get possessed by a demon?

Well! if going by the testimony of the Glatzel family, 8-year-old David Glatzel allegedly had played host to a demon. After witnessing a number of increasingly ominous occurrences involving David, his family, exhausted and terrified, decided to take the help of Ed and Lorraine Warren in a last-ditch effort to "cure" the child.

The Glatzel family, along with the Warrens, then proceeded to have multiple priests petition the Catholic Church to have a formal exorcism performed on David. The process continued for several days, concluding when, according to those present, a demon fled the child's body and took up residence within Arne Johnson. These events were documented in the book The Devil In Connecticut by Gerald Brittle.

For those who cannot understand the connection between Arne and David, here is what you should know-

Prior to the murder of Bono, Arne Johnson was engaged to a young woman by the name of Debbie Glatzel. Glatzel’s family was struggling with a series of unexplained and ominous events that had happened over the past year to her younger brother, 11-year-old David Glatzel. And, if going by the facts and claims, Johnson had invited the demon in David to leave him and instead take his soul.

Where is Arne Johnson now?

Despite multiple pieces of evidence and testimonies presented by Ed and Loraine Warren,  on November 24, 1981, Arne Cheyenne Johnson was convicted of first-degree manslaughter for the killing of his landlord, Alan Bono, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

However, due to his good behaviour, Arne Cheyenne Johnson was released from prison after 5 years in 1986. Talking about where is Arne now and what is he doing, reports suggest that he is still alive, however, he has kept a low profile since being freed. Notably, Arne will be seen in the Netflix docuseries The Devil on Trial.

It is pertinent to mention here that Arne Johnson married Debbie Glatzel while in prison in January 1984. They remained together until her reported death in 2021. It is worth mentioning that a movie on Arne's case has already been made and it is named- The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.
